Identification: 

-Dense, conical to columnar form
-Simple leaf, narrow with spines near apex, dark green, evergreen
-Prominent red berries, ¼ inch in diameter in late autumn through winter

Note:   The Foster Holly represents a popular group of interspecific hybrids of I. opaca, I. cassine and I. myrtifolia. Five selections in total were made; number 2 is the most frequently grown in the nursery industry. Number 4 is a male selection and can be planted to ensure pollination and fruit set in mass plantings where a native pollen source may be in doubt.
